Backsbottom Farmland is rich in wild flower meadows, upland bog and ancient woodlands creating habitats rich in wildlife and used for grazing Lleyn sheep. We have developed a forest garden and orchards containing over 200 varieties of hardy apples and plums. The fruit and fruit trees are available to buy from the farm, with the surplus made into organic james and chutneys.
Part of the farm hosts the Middlewood Study centre, which offers a diverse range of courses such as pruning and grafting fruit, alternative energy, permaculture systems and woodland crafts. The farm also welcomes educational groups (free to visit)
Backsbottom farm is off-grid, generating its own electricity through wind and photovoltaic cell generation. A camping barn and yurts are available for hire and from Spring 2011 we will have a holiday cottage with fantastic views over the river.
